AT A GLANCE

A Century of History

All Souls was founded in 1921, only nine years after the city of Alhambra was established.  It has been a leading school for most of its 100 years of history. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade have achieved academic excellence and gone on to study at selective high schools and universities. Careers of our alums range from medicine, politics, education, law, business, and clergy or religious.

Children today are fortunate to face opportunities that students in 1912 scarcely could have imagined: from the Internet, smart phones, electric cars, and high-speed travel to job opportunities in fields ranging from electronic media to computer science and biotech.

Children today also face challenges that are unique, including: a dramatic increase in skill required to obtain jobs; competition for school admissions from millions more qualified applicants; and job competition from billions more people worldwide.

All Souls meets these goals by, among other things:
  • Recruiting and retaining the best personnel possible;
  • Adopting curricula and policies based on outcomes research;
  • Regularly assessing both individual student and school-wide results; and
  • Sharing our experiences with other educators in order to continually learn and improve

In 1921, All Souls was a pioneering local school community of European Americans. Today, it sits at the geographic center of a bustling, modern region with sizable populations of Asian and Hispanic immigrants, many of whom maintain close ties to their homelands, people, and businesses all over the world.

The school undertook a major process of considering how best to educate children in the new century, and this process culminated in All Souls closing its doors for two years and reopening in 2012 as one of the only two-track dual language (Mandarin and Spanish) immersion schools in the country. The 2012–2013 school year was so successful that All Souls' enrollment tripled in 2013–2014, and now we are in the process of growing significantly more!

"The way Catholic schools operated in the past is no longer viable today."
