HULA

Learn the culture and art of the Hawaiian People through the Hula Dance. Students will learn ancient dances (Kahiko) and modern dances (Avana). Children will also learn the protocols of hula dancing and be exposed to the stories and legends of the Hawaiian people. Returning students will review all of our pule (prayers) and dances. New and returning students will start on 2 new dances (Hana Chant—A Kahiko, and Holo Holo Ka’a).

DRUMS

A student favorite, World Drums beats on to the sound of happy children, eager to learn drumming techniques in a fun, collective atmosphere. Students also learn how to keep rhythm and time through exciting, noise-making lessons! Register for either Tuesday or Thursday classes.

CHOIR

Rhythm & Blues and Godly tunes... our music teacher Mr. Yslas continues offering choir. Students will learn how to use their voices as instruments of joy. The basics of melody, harmony, and fine-tuning will provide serious young musicians with the tools they need to grow up with a love of music and performance.

JAZZ/HIP HOP

This is a combination class that brings together the best of different dance styles. The high-energy jazz rhythms take the technique of ballet and puts them into movement. Students will also learn different styles of hip hop and how to dance to the beat of world music with coordination and grace. Students will perform in the annual dance recital at a local, professional venue. Although this recital is optional, it gives students a chance to show off the jazzy moves they’ve been learning all year.

PIANO

Come join the fun! As they learn the notes to play on the piano, students will march, clap, shout, and sing! This class is an amazing opportunity for students to receive the life-long gift of music from you as parents, and from the teacher. Students will learn team skills, with four children playing on two pianos! They also learn cognitive skills, hand-eye coordination, pattern recognition, analysis, and listening skills.

GUITAR

Learn to play the guitar from our very own, Mr. Yslas! In these fun and informative lessons, students will build basic guitar skills step-by-step with the help of hands-on exercises. Students do not need their own guitar to take this class, but space is limited. Students will explore the fundamentals of music notation and find out how to produce clear, beautiful notes and chords. They'll also discover how to control their rhythm, tempo, volume, and how to express themselves artistically. The classical guitar skills they'll master in this course will allow you to play any style of music, from hard rock to country-and-western.

FLAMENCO

Students will learn the fiery Spanish Gypsy art form of Flamenco through rhythmic hand clapping, arm movements, footwork, and choreography. Classes will include exposure to a variety of Flamenco music through listening and participating exercises. Each student will be encouraged to ignite his/her inner spark and have the opportunity to perform during class at a recital in the spring!

A journey of learning through language and faith.
